PRWPF Gets It's Start The Pine River Watershed Protection Foundation arose from the WAPOA board several years back. After many planning and organization meetings, the Foundation was chartered in October, 1996 by the Minnesota Foundation, Inc. The mission of the Foundation is to protect all waters in the Pine River Watershed. This is an on-going effort of discovery and corrections of threats while increasing the appreciation of our water quality and working on its preservation. Funding for the Foundation comes from donations from organizations, individuals and in some cases other foundations. Enthusiasm from the public for the Foundation is very high. The lake associations within the watershed, many interested businesses, and the private lake people throughout the watershed take part in this unique opportunity to protect our waters by active participation in its programs and donations of money. The Pine River Watershed pamphlet is used to introduce the Foundation to the people of the watershed and the general public. The Foundation operates through by-laws that were submitted and approved to obtain the charter. They call for an advisory board of seven members, a minimum of two yearly meetings, and called meetings as necessary. This is a public foundation with open meetings. All interested parties are invited to membership in the organiztion. The Foundation may be reached at: Pine River Watershed Protection Foundation P.O. Box 822 Crosslake, MN 56442 Phone: (218) 543-6884 Fax: (218) 543-6884 Remember, 86% of all water in the Pine River Watershed flows through the Whitefish chain. In negotiating with the Minnesota Foundation, Inc., we were cautioned that a public foundation trust is set up in perpetuity. We assured the Minnesota Foundation that the threats to our wonderful water were just as perpetual. |
