President’s Message By Judy Yorston I can’t believe the spring we have had, warmer then usual and dry with sunshine. Hopefully this will not set us up for poor water quality later this summer. Last year, because of the colder spring and summer, the water quality was much improved over previous years. Have got our dock out and are ready for a busy summer of activities and water sampling for the MPCA and Soil & Water. Your Association has planned the summer activities for you and your families. We start off with Freedom Fest and our Food Booth on Saturday, June 26th to help support our Scholarship Program. Plan to visit our booth from 11:00 to 4:00 and enjoy a burger or hot dog. Next is the 4th of July Boat Parade, more coming on this fun event. The Senior Outing at Lakeside is where we will be serving Cookies and Ice Cream to residents and the Senior Singers on July 13th at 1:00 p.m. The Fair booth and Fair Parade is always a fun activity and we are always looking for volunteers to man our booth on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 5, 6, 7, and 8, so if you are available for a few hours give a Board Member a call. If you are a golfer, we are once again joining with the Pokegama Association for our Annual Golf Outing on Saturday, August 14th. Sign up at the Club House in Pine City. The Membership Meeting on Saturday, September 18th is our election of Officers and we need everyone there to vote for the candidate of your choice. Finally the October 9th Dinner/Dance and Silent Auction at the Legion. There will be dancing to the Cruisers and a fun time for all. Besides the activities we are busy doing water testing of our lakes and river twice monthly for the MPCA TMDL study along with our testing of our lake and streams and attempting to do a few test projects to try to improve the water quality. It has been quite an adventure researching sound scientific projects, getting required approvals, trying to get grant funds to pay for the projects, purchasing needed equipment and supplies and finding the time to do the work. Results from last years testing will be available at our May 15th Membership Meeting at the Legion at 9:00 a.m. Plan to attend and receive your free gift and continental breakfast. Make this the year you become active in your Association. Consider working a few hours in the Fair Booth, helping serve our Senior Citizens, calling members for activities, addressing mailings like the CROSSINGS, helping get businesses to advertise to pay for our mailings, decorating and setting up for the Silent Auction, help with sampling for water quality, or any number of activities now spread between too few individuals. Thanks to all the members who contribute with their time, support, and money to Water Quality and our great Social Events. Without you there would be no Association. Judy Yorston, President, The Cross Lake Association of Pine County
